Yesterday, our man Dick Allen was selected to the 2014 Golden Era Committee ballot for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The is an important step and marks the first time his Hall of Fame credentials will actually be debated on a national level.
Huge props to our friend Mark "Frog" Carfagno for his relentless and passionate support for Dick. Without him, this day may have never come. If you have not already visited and "liked" the Facebook group DICK ALLEN BELONGS IN THE HALL OF FAME! -- you should do so.
The final step belongs to the 16-person Golden Era Committee, which consists of Hall of Famers Jim Bunning, Rod Carew, Pat Gillick, Ferguson Jenkins, Al Kaline, Joe Morgan, Ozzie Smith and Don Sutton; baseball executives Jim Frey, David Glass, Roland Hemond and Bob Watson; and veteran media members Steve Hirdt, Dick Kaegel, Phil Pepe and Tracy Ringolsby.
The Golden Era Committee will review and vote on the Hall of Fame candidates at the Winter Meetings in December. Dick needs at least 12 votes to be inducted.
