If I'm not mistaken, GM Hawk Harrelson may have hired Allen to work with the "power" hitters and somebody else worked with the "slap' hitters. Allen's time in Texas was the basis of all of the Craig Wright "defense" work on Allen's behalf against the criminally inexcusable accusations thrown at Allen by Bill James in his "Historical Baseball Abstract". Interestingly enough, in his original version of the same book, James suggested he thought Allen was the most gifted baseball player he had ever seen
