Dick Allen Hall of Fame
Welcome!!
Initially launched as a tribute to my childhood baseball hero... Dick Allen Hall of Fame now serves a window into the soul of a hopeless baseball addict.
Last night I was watching the 2003 Veterans Stadium closing ceremonies (which I had taped then), and afterwards they were interviewing Dick Allen.
If you recall the ceremony, after the parade of players from 1971 to 2003, they also brought out the "top 3" at each position. Allen was one of the three 1st basemen, along with John Kruk and Jim Thome. (I guess it helped Allen that Pete Rose was ineligible to participate.)
Allen was so glad to be part of the proceedings (thanking the organization and the fans several times). Someone asked him if he had scrawled "Thank you fans" in the dirt over at 1st base. He laughed, and said that writing in the dirt got him in trouble last time.
