1958 Topps

OK, here is my last Dick Allen fantasy card for a while. I will readily admit, these are a lot of fun to make, but these things are chewing up my time.

This is a 1958 Topps version of a late in his career Dick Allen. The original photo was taken at Wrigley Field in 1975. No question on which first name to use on this one. The Phillies cards from this year had several different colored backgrounds, including light blue, black and yellow. I chose yellow because it contrasts nicely from the powder blue uniforms the Phils wore during the 1975 season.

This is another colorized black and white photo. This particular one is from my collection of original negatives. You can see the original B&W image here.

1953 Topps

Here is a early career Phillies version of a 1953 Topps card. I struggled with using RICHIE as the first name on this fantasy card, but decided to go with it. Most Phillies fans from this era continue to call him by that name to this day. The photo is one that I hand colorized using photoshop. I am pretty pleased with how it came out.

I am formulating in my mind a late career Phillies fantasy card for my next trick.

1956 Topps

I've recently had the itch to be creative with photoshop. As I was looking through some old baseball cards, I decided it would be fun to create a 1956 Dick Allen card. I chose the White Sox for this version, but I may do a Phillies (and possibly other teams) one in the future.

Game used helmet auction

I found an interesting item listed on an online auction site today, it looks to be a game-used Dick Allen Phillies helmet from his first stint in Philadelphia. If you look at the details of the helmet, you can see it has been repainted a couple of times, including a rough "P" logo redux.

Here is the link for the helmet auction. Bidding has ended. It started at $200 and ended at $2,789.90. I doubt I would have wanted to spend that much, but this is a very cool piece of DA memorabilia.
